Don’t worry, be happy

Making a choice of how you feel is quite simple. You can choose to be happy or remain in the grip of a negative mood. As US president Abraham Lincoln once observed: “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

That is echoed in Bobby McFerrin’s song: Don’t Worry, Be Happy. Once you get into that feel good, positive attitude of happiness your world is a happier place too. It’ll give you a good vibe and will manifest itself in other aspects of your life, including your health and relationships.

Here is a great list of choices to help you sparking into that happy space:

Be grateful: We have so much to be thankful for so why not say it to those that count. Being thankful will put a smile on others lips

Less news: News is stressful, so get less of it. Starting the day with a dose of bad news will not complement your peace of mind

Leverage time: Time is invaluable and too important to waste. Schedule daily goals, create lists, prioritize. When tasks are under your control, you’ll be surprised how it shifts your mindset

Laugh: Laugh heartily daily. It is proven to change your mindset and can spark creativity

Communicate: Express yourself to people around you and they’ll reciprocate. Try not to bottle up anger, but find ways of channeling it into positive action.

Give 100%: Working hard brings tremendous personal satisfaction, accomplishment and gives us a sense of value. Also, work on things that you feel worthy of your time.

Learn: Learn something new: it’s a joyful exercise, expands your horizons and provides future opportunities.

Move: Tap into your endorphins: run, jog, walk. Do what your body was made for. Feel alive!
