Budget Design Tricks That Can Transform Your Home

If you work from home and you want the place to be as attractive as possible to stop you from going stir crazy in there all alone, there are a number of design tricks, which are used by the professionals, that you can employ to make your home look even better than before without spending too much time or money. Take a look at these savvy design tips and get started now!

Use Lighter Colors in Small Rooms

Whether you live in a tiny home or you’re just stuck using the smallest space in the house as your own personal office, you can make the place instantly look bigger by painting tiny rooms in soft, light pastel colors. Light walls give the illusion of space, especially if you hang a few mirrors to reflect any natural light in there too, so be sure to fill your home office with as much light and glass as possible.

Shine a Light

Another thing that can make any room look bigger is the addition of more light. If a room is both small and dingy, it can look even more cramped than it is. (which is also why you should never paint a small room in dark colors) By making the most of the natural light available to you by installing larger windows and opening up the space, you can instantly transform any small room.

Of course, not all of us can afford to install new windows, but that doesn’t matter much because you can get the same effect by calling an electrical services company and having a few more lights wired into the ceiling and on the walls. If even that is out of your budget range, just invest in a few more lamps and place them strategically around the room. They’ll take up more space, but that’s a trade-off you might want to make for the additional light.

Use Slipcovers

Yes, really! I know a lot of people think slipcovers are tacky, but you can buy sophisticated slip covers for your furniture these days, and they are a great way to change the look and feel of your furniture without spending a fortune on completely new pieces. They can also be very handy for removing when you have a lot of clients calling and your furniture sees a lot of wear and tear. The trick is to purchase covers that fit well and look expensive (even if they aren’t).

Hit the Thrift Stores

Is your home looking a bit too blank and minimalist for your liking? You don’t have to go to an expensive antique store or top-end boutique to accessorize your space. Your local thrift store is certain to have some classy, quirky and antique pieces, from little trinkets to huge works of art, that you can buy for a few dollars and scatter around your home to give it a more cozy feel and inject some with personality. Just be wary of cramming too much into your office – that could be distracting.

Paint and Paper

If you have old furniture that you’re just dying to chuck in the skip, but you can’t afford to replace it, why not upcycle it? Adding a lick of paint or some bold, colorful newspaper to everything from your work desk to that old bookcase in the corner can give them a new lease of life and brighten up your home in a moment. If you read up on decoupage and do a good job, you could even create a masterpiece that designer home brands would envy!
