How You Can Become A Real-Life Superhero (In Both Life And Business)

(image)

You don’t need to wear a suit with a cape to be a superhero. You don’t need to have superpowers to make a difference to the world around you. There’s no need to give yourself a super-moniker when battling the injustices in the world. There’s no need to work on your muscles to make you look the part.

You can be a superhero without any of those things, and you can even start today.

In both your personal and business life, you can make a difference in the lives of those around you, on a local and global level.

How?

Read on to find out more.

On A Business Level

In business, think outside of your profit margins and ego as a business leader. While money and reputation are important, there are ways to show your superhero credentials in the way you conduct your operations.

Be kind to your employees, making a difference to their lives in the ways you speak and interact with them. By offering a smile, a kind word, and a dose of healthy encouragement, you can inspire them to be the best they can be, both in and out of the workplace.

Think globally within your business operations. What can your business do to make an impact on the environment? It’s time to go green, and we aren’t talking about busting through your shirt and becoming the Hulk! You can adopt eco-friendly practices around the workplace, implementing recycling policies, using energy-efficient technology, and utilizing green web hosting. You don’t need to fly around the world like Superman to repair the damage to the environment, as you can do it all from the confines of your office space.

Reach out to the community, and look for ways to serve others from within your business. Perhaps you could raise funds for local charities, especially those that mean something to both you and your employees. You could volunteer your services, using the skills and talents within your business to help others at no cost to them. Or you may have the means to donate a portion of your profits to a good cause. On a business level, these are all good marketing tactics, but on a heroic level, you are also doing a good deed for the people in your neighbourhood who need your help.

Beat your business rivals. Batman had the Joker. Superman had Lex Luthor. You have… well, the other businesses similar to yours, online and off to consider. Now, we aren’t telling you to run them out of business – that wouldn’t be very heroic – but if they aren’t following ethical practices, or if they aren’t offering value for money to their customers, you could take action to thwart them, challenging standards, and offering your customers something better.

On A Personal Level

Not only can you make a difference from within your business, but you can also make a difference in your personal life. Running around the streets in a cape and utility belt is entirely optional, but consider how you can save others on a daily basis.

Go green at home, both saving money as well as saving the planet in your daily habits. Turn off the lights in rooms you aren’t using, ditch the car occasionally, and spend less time wasting water under the shower. In fact, you can conserve water by installing a rainwater tank – see National Poly Industries – and you can conserve electricity too by installing solar panels and energy-efficient appliances around the home.

Stand up for justice in the way you live your life. Find a cause you are passionate about, and be an advocate, volunteering for something, and/or raising your voice online and off to ensure other people are aware of the cause you are fighting for. Should you see somebody being treated badly in the street or in your workplace, don’t be an innocent bystander. Protect them, either by getting directly involved, or by calling for assistance from others.

Perform random acts of kindness, taking time out to positively affect somebody’s day. Smile at somebody on the bus, help the person struggling to pay for shopping at the supermarket checkout, or offer to help a neighbour who is in need of assistance. One person can make a difference, and your good example may inspire others to follow suit and offer kindness elsewhere.

Look for opportunities. Sometimes, you will be able to do a good deed when the opportunity crosses your path. However, it’s important to be proactive too. When you get out of bed in the morning, ask yourself: What could I do to make a difference today? Think about it, and then make it happen. Look for a charity to support, consider the people who need your help, and go to places where you know your skills and talents can be put to good use.

Lead by example. Be that person who puts their litter in the bin. Be the person who speaks out when others are afraid to. Be the person who takes action when others pass on by. In the end, it’s your integrity and compassion that will shine through. It doesn’t matter if people see you doing a good deed or not – that shouldn’t be your modus operandi – but it’s a bonus when others do recognise what you are doing, and then follow suit after being inspired by your good example.

Sacrifice yourself. We aren’t telling you to put yourself in harm for the sake of another; that would be the ultimate sacrifice! Rather, we are saying put your ego aside and think less selfishly, using your time and money to serve others rather than your own needs. So spend less time watching TV and spend more time with others. And spend less money on yourself and use it to help somebody in more need than you.

Start Today

Too many of us live selfishly. Too many of us live our lives for personal and professional gain. We don’t spend enough time in service to the lives of others. But if want to go against the grain, if you want to be a real-life superhero instead of fantasising about them, then perhaps you can make a difference to the life of somebody else today. You see, the world is in a mess, there are millions of people in need, and while it can be overwhelming if you don’t have the power of Superman, you need only be one person to be a catalyst for change. And today, that person could be you!
