Ever thought about making your room come to life? Even if you aren’t a huge fan of interior design, there are many simple and affordable things you can do to take your living standards to the next level.

Design is all about arranging things in a way that is pleasing to the eye. In general, simple is beautiful, so look for ways to clean up your space. Here are a few tips from our friends over at Land of Rugs to help you decorate without breaking the bank.

  • Paint

Even the most unsightly blemishes can be concealed by the stroke of a makeup brush. In the same way, a dirty wall or beat-up table can be transformed with a little bit of paint.

Simply take a small bucket of paint of your desired colour and a paintbrush or paint roller depending on the type of application and get painting! Bright colours like red and yellow are perfect for giving your room a lot of flavour, whereas cool colours such as black and grey for great for a modern, city feel.

  • Lights

Without light, we wouldn’t be able to see anything. On the other hand, light can be carefully selected to completely change the atmosphere of a space.

For workplaces, invest in small, white lights that can be focused on the work area to block out unnecessary interferences and reduce eye strain.

For living spaces and rooms, a nice, warm, golden light is amazing for a romantic atmosphere that is perfect for relaxing with friends or winding down at night.

  • Make The Bed

Things that appear out of place are the first to be noticed. Just like how a messy bed sticks out like a sore thumb, simply folding the sheets nicely over the bed can tidy up a room instantly.

On a similar note, pillows and other accessories can add a nice accent to the bed and give it a unique taste. For solid-color bedsheets, try adding a few pillows with clean designs on top of the bed for a nice, classy feel.

  • Positioning Is Key

Just like how a photographer wouldn’t take a photo that cuts off people’s heads, a designer wouldn’t place everything in one corner of the room. Try to position furniture and accessories such as clocks, bookshelves, and picture frames slightly apart from each other and avoid large clusters.

When possible, place items along the centerline of another one, since the human eye naturally perceives symmetry as beautiful. If you are feeling inspired, investing in a tape measure for measuring specific distances between objects can transform your room into an architectural masterpiece.

  • Clean Your Room

You might have heard it a million times, but sometimes the most cliché things are the most important. Sweeping the floor and wiping down tables and windows is an instant fix for removing spots that easily catch the eye’s attention.

You want to draw attention to the accents in the room like the chandelier, not the clumps of hair on the ground. Also, something as easy as closing the toilet lid can make a huge difference for aesthetics and good vibes in a room. For tough stains, try using a stain remover spray and wash thoroughly.

Not that you know the five most important tips for decorating on a budget, what are you waiting for? No matter how beautiful your room might be already, there is always something you can do to make it even more beautiful!
