Do What You Do Best in Business

If you have a creative spark and an entrepreneurial flair, going into business is a natural step. The only problem is, business isn’t just about pursuing your interests, you also need to be able to manage business finances, oversee marketing campaigns and have a vision for the future too.

To get the best from your business, it’s important that you have the time and space to do what you do best – create, imagine and develop new ideas. So how can you possibly manage that?

Outsource and Delegate

Outsourcing is now a common practice in business, especially in small specialist businesses. You can outsource almost everything nowadays from accounting with companies like Xero Bookkeeper right through to a digital personal assistant service. The more you can outsource, the less you will need to worry about in house and it’s likely you will save a bit of cash too.

If your company is growing and you are planning to hire a small team, make sure you hire people who complement your skills. When you can delegate with confidence, you will find you have more time to do what you do best.

Make Time to Dream

Injecting creativity into your business requires time and space. Giving yourself and your team a chance to dream is really important and everything from the design of your office to your attitude towards work will aid or inhibit you. If you don’t have the option to dream, you’re not going to have the great ideas you need.

Building a creative space where you can think is really important. The best ideas are those that come unexpectedly, not the ones you chase endlessly trying to figure something out. This is why more creative businesses are bringing in comfy sofas, pool tables and imaginatively designed spaces. No-one ever had a great idea in a grey cubicle, so if you have the option, make something cool.

Bounce Ideas Around

Now you have the time and space to think, you might be wondering, what is the best way to think more creatively? There are lots of theories for creative thinking but there’s one thing that really does it: variety.

Do lots of different things, read everything and challenge yourself to explore new ideas. The more variety you have, the more likely you are to stumble across some great creative ideas. Compare and contrast, find unexpected similarities and open your mind to even the weirdest ideas. The more you allow yourself to see unique connections, the more interesting your ideas will become.

As an entrepreneur, your main job is to direct your business and explore new things but you need to have the structure in place to allow you the time and space to do that. Once your basic needs are met through delegation and outsourcing, you should focus on making a space where you work well. From there, all you need to do is to open yourself up to different experiences.

Running a business is hard enough without having to do everything. Focus on doing what you do best and your business will thrive.
