High living costs and low rates of pay in many jobs means that a lot of people find themselves struggling to make ends meet. Maybe you want to pay off debts, save money or just live more comfortably, either way, finding extra ways to get cash will never be a bad thing for most of us. Thankfully, it doesn’t necessarily need to mean taking on extra working hours or an extra job, there are some things you can do in your free time, right from your own home. Here are some ideas.

Rent out a room

If you own your home and don’t have any subletting restrictions, renting out to a lodger or even setting up a room to rent with AirBnB can be a great way to earn some extra cash. If you don’t know where to start, a property management company will be able to advise you and get everything all set up so you can start earning. It can take some adjustment learning to share your home with others, but the cash you’re able to earn makes it well worth it. Some homes work particularly well for this because of the way they’re split up, for example if the room you’re renting has an ensuite bathroom (or your own room does) you might not even see much of the people that come and go.m

Start up your own home business

Starting up a home business can allow you to turn your skills or passion into cash. Have a think about the things you love doing, it could be crafting, baking or tutoring students on a topic you know a lot about such as music or nutrition. Start your venture small in your free time and let it grow organically as you’ll be able to see whether it’s something that will remain as a side hustle, or that you can continue to build and potentially even go full time with if it does well.

Create content

Creating content is a great way to make money online. Bloggers and Youtubers can both earn a significant amount of cash every month, although this does take time. This is a good option for someone who already has an established following on these types of platforms, as you can work on improving things and monetising more. As your site or channel gains followers and authority, sponsors and advertisers will start to contact you about paid work. It’s a great way to earn money as you’re doing something you genuinely enjoy anyway; it might be a bit of extra pocket money but if you’re lucky and it does really well, it could easily become your full time career. Have a think about what you enjoy and base your content around this, it could be anything from travel to career advice, health and fitness or just your daily lifestyle.

If you need to earn some extra cash, consider one of these methods- you won’t even need to leave the house.
