With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic changing everything, one of the things you’ll have no doubt found is that staying at home all the time can be tough. It sounds like the easiest thing in the world and you might have previously wished you had more time at home. But when it comes to actually do it, it can take its toll pretty quickly.

That’s why it’s so vitally important to ensure you look after your health while you’re stuck at home. A few simple changes to your routines and a few steps will make staying healthy and happy while in lockdown so much easier for you. We’re going to talk about those things now, so read on to find out more about what you should know.

Practice Meditation

First of all, you should try to practice meditation for a short time each day. Start small and take things from there; it can be daunting and difficult to get right when you’ve never practised meditation before. But once you get the hang of it, you’ll realize that there’s really nothing to it at all. It’s essentially about relaxing completely and clearing your mind of all distractions and thoughts. It can really help you to relax and many people find that it’s a great way to begin the day.

Work Out Virtually

Just because you can’t attend your spin class or hit the gym after work, that doesn’t mean you can’t work out or stay fit at home. You’ll find that many classes have already made the transition online. Think about taking part virtually. Sure, it can be a little strange at first but it’ll quickly become your new normal. With so many people doing this, it’s easy to get involved. And even if you don’t want to take part in a video call fitness class, you can always find your own ways to work out at home.

Cook Fresh Meals Each Day

Cooking hearty and healthy meals each day should be one of your top priorities when you’re stuck at home and trying to stay healthy. If you get into the habit of ordering unhealthy, high fat take away food to your home, you’re going to pile on the pounds and feel pretty bad about it. That’s why you should always try to cook fresh meals from your home each and every day. It can certainly be done when you dedicate the time and energy to making it happen.

Use Online Doctor Appointments

Your health doesn’t stop being a priority for you just because you have to stay at home a lot of the time these days. There are now online doctor appointments that you can make the most of, so even if you don’t want to attend your doctor’s office in person, you can still see them and get help with any ongoing health issues that you need help to deal with. It can make your life a lot less stressful and help you to stay at home as much as you possibly can.

Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

Staying hydrated throughout the day is one of the most important things you can do for yourself when you’re looking to stay in good health during your time stuck at home. You’ll feel so much better and your mind will feel a lot clearer when you remain hydrated all day long. It can seem difficult to drink 2 litres of water a day, but once you get into the right habits and routines, it’ll be easy for you and you’ll definitely feel the benefits of doing so.

Be Sure to Get Plenty of Sleep

Another thing you’ll want to get plenty of is sleep. Whether you’re used to getting 8 hours plus of sleep per night or not, it’s something you should start trying to get now. And if you no longer have to do the morning commute, it might be easier for you to do this while you’re stuck at home. You really will start to feel more energized throughout the day when you get a full night’s sleep so don’t skimp on this.

Give Yourself Screen Breaks

It’s easy to sit in front of the computer and other screens all day long when you’re stuck at home. It can be tough and it can strain your eyes and really put you in a bad place. Some people even suffer headaches. That’s why it’s so important to remember to give yourself regular screen breaks throughout the day. And if you’ve been staring at a screen all day, you might want to do something that doesn’t involve screens during the evening.

Take Walks

When it comes to maintaining your health, activity is vital but that’s not all that matters. You also need to get out of your four walls and get some fresh air. That’s not necessarily the easiest thing to do when you’re meant to be staying at home, but you can still go for a walk when it’s safe to do so and as long as you’re careful to follow all of the relevant social distancing protocol. You’ll definitely benefit from it.

Keep Your Home as Clean as Possible

Finally, you should think about the environment in which you’re going to be based for most of your time from now on. Keeping it as clean and tidy as possible will make you feel a whole lot better about having to spend so much of your time at home. When the place feels like a complete mess, it can really take its toll on you and you’ll start to feel even more down and depressed about the whole situation and that’s the last thing you need.

With COVID-19 keeping us all trapped at home for the time being, knowing how to look after yourself while you’re at home has never been more important. Be sure to make the most of the tips and advice above if you want to make sure your mental and physical health remain in good shape throughout the lockdown.
