Bite size steps to success!

“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” A saying we know well, but fail to observe.

The elephant may well be a big goal, but viewing it as if your life depends on it will set you up for a big fail. Why not enjoy the small bites along the way?

If you ask someone what goal they’re working on, they’ll say they’re working on something big, something that gives them all life purpose. You’ll probably notice they are not happy. That’s their mistake: focusing entirely on big goals.

Long term goals are great. Aiming high makes us strive for the best. But for every long term objective, you need to concentrate on short to medium-term goals.

If you feel overwhelmed by huge tasks, it may be that you don’t know what to do, the frustration kicks in and, as time goes by, you notice your goal hasn’t been achieved. Small goals give you something concrete. When you know what to do, you’ll be more inspired.

Secondly, enjoy the satisfaction and benefits of achieving a small goal. You’ll get great satisfaction for checking it off your to-do list even if it’s far from your ultimate goal. Your life satisfaction levels will be a lot higher.

Looking to lose 40 pounds in weight? Don’t focus on that, because every time you get on the scales, you’ll notice that you haven’t achieved it and will only reinforce failure in your mind.

Break it down into smaller goals: lose a pound, read about weight loss, find a support group or learn a new healthy recipe. Small aims will keep you on track and make you feel great. And, if you end up eating the elephant, great! But enjoy the small bites along the way.
